Arthie has built a life for herself by dealing in the secrets of others. With the help of Jin, the two open an illicit blood house for the city’s outcast vampire population under the guise of a tea house during the day. Arthie is an incredibly strong female character and even though she is guarded with her own secrets, there is great character development throughout the story. The found family dynamic between Arthie and Jin compliment each other. Romance is present throughout the the story but it is not an overwhelming main focus. While the pacing plateaued in some places, I enjoyed seeing the planning methods the characters used to overcome challenges. Every character had secrets and their own motives. The theme of colonialism was presented very well and added depth the the story. The very ending had me disappointed only because I have to wait for the next book to be released.
