A Tempest of Tea is set in a peculiar world, with fun twists and unique characters. Overall this was a fun read.

The main character Arthie operates a teahouse, called Spindrift, that doubles as a bloodhouse for Vampires at night. Arthie and her crew deal in blood and secrets until one day she learns that her teahouse is to be shut down by the city's rulers.
In order to save her home she must team up with the vampires to learn the secrets the city's rulers are keeping.

The first half of this book was very slow and struggled to hold my attention. There is a lot of lead-up to the heist that occurs, but the actual heist and action portion was very short in comparison. It felt dissatisfying.
We do learn quite a bit of the back story for each character, but it wasn't enough to make up for the lack of action.

The romance portion of the plot also fell a little flat. It felt forced and the characters didn't have enough chemistry to make it work. Again, there was a lot of lead-up to a love triangle that we didn't see play out.

Originally I was going to rate this three stars, but I enjoyed the twist at the end so I upped it to four stars. The slow plot, in the beginning, is made up for in the reveal at the end of the book. I will definitely be picking up book two when it is released.
