This was everything I expected and then some.

As per usual, I loved Hafsah Faizal's writing. Her descriptions were atmospheric and they really helped set the tone and mood for the story. Though, I will say, there were quite a few parts where I felt like it dragged on. Sometimes I found myself trying skin through some parts. Which brings me to the next part.

The plot was promising. I liked it enough to keep me going, even if it was slow in some parts. I think the ending really redeemed the book. The last few pages made it worth it in the end.

The only thing I had an issue with was the main character. She came off as cold and that made her unrelatable. While I understand that was the point, because she does end up opening up in the end, this improving her character arc, it was hard to root for her throughout most of the story.

Overall, I was expecting a different kind of story, and while this wasn't a let down, the vibes were just different (but not in a bad way). The setting was vivid and atmospheric and I loved the writing. How could I ever be disappointed in Hafsah Faizal. And what a beautiful cover this book has as well.
