2.4 cups of tea

The cover for this book is gorgeous and the premise is intriguing. Like when I read the author’s first book, I loved the start of the book and then felt the writing lost its way.

This is supposed to be a heist book but the heist is only a very small part of the plot. I loved the idea of a tea house by day and bloodhouse by night but that played an even smaller role.

I was excited to see the five characters interact, but I mostly got two forced together couples where the book spent more time telling me how they felt rather than showing me. One character was non-existent for the most part. The lingering strong relationship was the adopted sibling relationship between Jin and Arthie.

The book was saved by its slow reveal of secrets, some of which were truly unexpected and delightful. My favorite character was the cat. I hope the cat is explained more in the next book though I won’t be reading it.
