I really like the idea/ premise of this book as a cool heist novel with vampires but it's just not giving what it's supposed to be giving for me.
The romances feel forced, especially in regards to the love triangle (instalove not once but twice lol). And as for Flick and Jin, the building blocks of the romance was all done before the book started so I have nothing to grab onto/ root for when it comes to them. Although I will say that because of my feelings for Flick, even if there was relationship building I don't think I'd root for anything that made her happy. It's been a while since I've hated a character this much but she honestly annoys the bejesus out of me. Not only do I really not like her but the more I read on, the more my dislike of her grows. To the point where I can read "touch her and die" and instead of swooning, I'm rolling my eyes wishing she would just die lol.
I do like the magic and gun, and the inclusion of Laith's kitten is cute. All the right ingredients are there. Just doesn’t have that X factor that makes me completely in love/ obsessed and invested. Like things are happening that in another book would set my heart racing but I’m just left feeling meh. Sometimes things would happen that I felt like were just included as another trope checkbox (like the touch her and die line) that felt unnatural and oversaturated.
