Happy release week to a tempest of tea and @hafsahfaizal !

book: a tempest of tea
genre: YA fantasy with heavy romance subplot
format: early finished copy kindly gifted by @bookishfirst. Thank you! You made this introverted bookworm very giddy.

🩸🩸🩸🩸.5 - 🩸 (i’m indecisive)
This is a fast paced YA fantasy that takes you through the streets of White Roaring with unlikely crew led by the infamous Arthie and Jin Casimir, the young owners of Spindrift tea (and blood) room. The story follows the plan and execution of a heist into the Arthereum, an elusive elite vampire society, to save their teashop.

This book’s cover initially captured my eye, but within the first chapter, Arthie and her crew have me clambering down the cobblestone streets to step into the Spindrift. It was my Roman Empire for weeks after the first look.

Hafsah Faizal immediately seeps the reader with atmospheric world building and characterization in small pieces of imagery and clues that kept me turning to the next page (especially the ending).

I loved Jin and Arthie’s relationship; Their conversations and mannerisms speaks testament to the bond and family they have formed.

Overall, I loved this book and I can’t want for the sequel!

******spoiler censored thoughts******
There were few things I felt conflicted about, one being Arthie’s romance plot line as those characters weren’t as fleshed out compared to others, given the povs and smaller page time. I just didn’t buy into one side. Also, because many of the twists and reveals happen in the latter half last 100 pages (may have not put the book down til 2:45 am🫣), I wished a certain reveal steeped a bit longer for a stronger effect.
