Before the story even starts, the reader is introduced to a marvelous map of the world they are entering for the first time. The map has a beautiful illustration of a clock tower, along with a miniature town house with a lamp post. The author seems to know exactly what she is doing while using figurative language to help the readers imagine just what the new world they are entering looks like.
