This is the first book in a planned duology and the premise sounds fantastic. I love that there is a map in the beginning to help you familiarize yourself with the setting. With that said, the book basically drops you into the story immediately, no world-building, no easing you in. This may not be an issue for people who have read Faizal's previous work, but I was unfamiliar with it, so it took a moment for me to get my bearings. Once I settled in, the story was interesting and unique.
