I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of reading a novel written by Liz Johnson. Because it is classified as a romance, I anticipated this aspect but was pleasantly surprised by the mysterious threads of the storyline. The pacing of the romance and solving the mystery seemed realistic, and both had me wondering throughout how (or if) everything would resolve into a 'happily ever after' ending.

I appreciated the dual timelines of the story: current-day Ben and Millie dealing with (mostly) realistic challenges while also vicariously experiencing the summer of 1929 at a mansion on the Georgia coast through Ruth's diary entries. Knowing just one perspective of the historic events added to the intrigue.

Liz Johnson is skilled in establishing atmosphere; I could feel the setting's oppressive heat and humidity even though I read most of the book on a cold snowy day. The elements of faith were well incorporated into the novel and never seemed false or overbearing.

This was an excellent reading experience, and I look forward to reading the second installment of Johnson's Georgia Coast Romance series in 2019.
