I'm not much of one for pure romance stories, and I wouldn't consider A Sparkle of Silver to be purely romantic. I do think it was about a half and half split of romance and cozy mystery, so I think I can say I enjoyed about 50% of this book. The intrigue of the diary full of history and the mysterious treasure hunt were what kept me going in this book, not the many different romances that were detailed throughout the pages.

I enjoyed the way the story was split between two different timelines, which felt a little reminiscent of many other historical fiction stories I've read. It wasn't totally original, but it is definitely a form of story telling I enjoy for this genre. For a genre I don't care for, it still had elements I enjoyed, and I can see how this would appeal to many other people.
