Oh my. From the first page I connected with this story. I could easily put myself in Millie’s place because I experienced some of the same situations and emotions in my own life.
“What if last time was the last time…” These words really hit me hard. This thought often entered my mind when my mother was in the late stages of cancer. One of the side effects of the experimental medication she was taking was cognitive confusion. It was terrifying for me (a teenager at the time) when I’d walk into her bedroom and she didn’t know who I was, and I can imagine it was even more frightening for her. She didn’t know who I was, why I was in her home, or what it was I wanted.
Millie is a hardworking, dedicated, and compassionate person, and Ben sounds much of the same. I’m looking forward to their romance, and the mystery of Millie’s grandmother’s heritage!
