This was a fairly short excerpt. I wasn't interested in the book prior to reading the synopsis and the short excerpt (see below on design), but I became interested. This sounds like a unique story and hopefully has a bit of romance thrown in. I'm definitely interested in checking it out.
As far as the cover design, it did not make me want to pick up the book. It looks to be more serious or a historical fiction book based on the cover design. In my opinion, it would sell better with a different design (or at least, I'd be more likely to read the synopsis with a different design).
