Although this book will not be placed on a pedestal for either of "books I loved" or "to read again" or "highly recommend," I did find a redeeming theme (or at the very least what I perceived as a theme) for this read. A Scatter of Light teaches about second chances amongst a story of self discovery and identify and conflict - all three of which come in many shapes and forms throughout the course of the novel. Just as anyone who is "coming of age" can recall, it takes a stronger person to change course and choose a new path, a redirected path.

In addition to being reminded of second chances, I also found that I enjoyed the idea and concept of light scattering. The way in which this was woven through the story created interesting connections for Aria with her family and friends. From her grandfather that taught her the concept to her grandmother and new friends who helped her relearn the concept, "light scattering" brings on growth for Aria.

***Book received as ARC.
