I loved Last Night at the Telegraph Club so when I got Malinda Lo's new book I had very high expectations. I couldn't wait to get my hands on A Scatter of Light and meet the new characters in a new decade. I think she captured the teen angst and uncertainty brilliantly again. The protagonist, Aria West, is multifaceted and I wanted to follow her journey of discovering her sexuality. However, I could not root for Aria's love story throughout the book. I hope it's not a spoiler to say that I can't stand when the main conflict in a book is infidelity. This is my own personal bias and why I didn't end up enjoying this book as much as Lo's previous book. If you don't mind that the main love story is an affair then you might not have as many qualms about this book as I did. Overall, the writing was beautiful and the characters were well developed, it was the plot that lost me.
