This is a perfect example of steady suspense building. This book is a legal thriller that is full of twists, turns, questions, exciting climax, and so much more.

I picked this book for my June pick for Book of the Month club and I do not regret it one bit. I almost bypassed it because there was another book I wanted more but I kept coming back to this book. I think the cover is one reason I scrolled back to it. The cover is simplistic and fits the story perfectly.
The story is told in three parts. The first part is told from the father's perspective, Pastor Adam Sandell. The story starts with the family at Stella's 18th birthday dinner. From there, the story unfolds with Stella being accused of murder, Adam trying to help Stella with an alibi, and him trying to figure out what happened that night. The second part is Stella's perspective and trust me, the story does not get wrapped up with Stella telling the story. This part explains her relationship with her father, how she met the person who was murdered, and what her role was in the grand scheme of it all. The last part is told by Stella's mother, Ulrika, who is a criminal defense attorney. This where the story gets really good and starts to wind down. Everything is wrapped up with a very good conclusion.

I am not usually a fan of this type of story telling because it feels more to keep track of but this was very well done. The information did not feel repeated and it plays on the idea how there is always two sides to a story. I felt connected to each character as they told their sides of the story.

I highly recommend this book. It can be slow at first but if you stick it out, you will really enjoy it. It also takes place in Sweden and they have a different legal system then the United States.
