This is a Swedish mystery/suspense that can also be considered almost a police procedural. The family involved is going about their normal routines, with dad as a pastor, mom as a lawyer and their daughter about to embark on the journey that she has dreamed of for her entire lifetime. Then, the unexpected happens and Stella Sandell, the daughter is arrested under suspicion of murder. Told from the viewpoint of the father, the mother and Stella, the book definitely kept my interest. I especially enjoyed the time that Stella spent with Shirine, her counselor in prison, because that is when a lot of her innermost feelings were revealed. I liked all of the characters, especially Stella’s friend Amina, a weak and broken young girl who depends on Stella for her friendship. This book has the themes of friendship, betrayal, family love and loss. It was thoroughly enjoyable and definitely recommended for those who enjoy mystery and suspense!
