Perfectly Fine... for someone else

I didn't realize that this was an unconventional retelling of "The Masque of the Red Death" until I really got into the meat and potatoes of the story.
(I know, why didn't I read the Author's note? Because I'm lazy. That's why.)

I was really enjoying this one as a YA fantasy laced with antisemitism until... vampires. That was where the story became too much for me personally. I know that there are plenty of other who LOVED this book, and that's perfectly okay. But for me, when the Vampires were introduced, it felt like someone had just finished weaving a perfectly good blanket, and took scissors to the middle...

I wasn't attached to the characters very much during this read either, so I feel like it took me longer to read than average.

Don't let me discourage anyone either. There were many elements to this book that I liked and worked for me, and made it interesting to read, but then I got lost with the vampires (which is nowhere in the synopsis btw!)

Also, the artwork on this was gorgeous.
