Words can't describe how this deeply story steeped within me, all pun intended (Sorry). Lin’s debut novel comes in a time where escapism is needed and it is so greatly appreciated. I absolutely fell in love with Ning and her personality. Her determination and headstrong attitude made her an amazing protagonist as I followed her along her journey. I kept rooting for her to make it to the end of the competition as well as try to see where the story might take a turn. The characters and world were immersive. The cover is just as beautiful as the story.
With the way this story left off, it is a delight to know that the sequel comes out shortly after (but not soon enough!)
All in all, I highly recommend adding A Magic Steeped in Poison to your TBR and the sequel as well (a stunningly beautiful duology with covers that are just SO aesthetically pleasing? Uh yes please!)
