This book was amazing. It was magical. It had the same feel as watching a favorite C-drama. Ning is such a strong character. Her love for her sister and her guilt over her mother’s death were heart wrenching to read. I am looking forward to seeing more of Ning, Zhen, Ruyi, Kang, Lian and Shu in the next book.
Judy I. Lin is a wonderful storyteller. The way she wrote made me feel completely absorbed in the story. I was grabbed from the first line and not let go even after the last chapter. I really enjoyed how the magic of the shènnóng-shī was described, so vivid. I will be waiting with bated breath for the next book.
I also would like to say that the book cover art is stunning. It lends to the story’s magical and surreal feel. This a book that is beautiful both inside and out.
