Judy I Lin has crafted an exquisite fantasy tale steeped in Chinese lore, philosophy, and traditional medicine. It's the first fantasy novel I've ever read starring the art of tea making as the main vehicle for producing magic, and was completely bewitched by the themes and Judy's writing style. Her tale is as colorful, sweeping, and intricate as Sija Hong's illustration on the cover.

This paragraph at the end of chapter 25 captures her talent with brewing a delicate & powerful concoction of words that enchant readers and keep them excited and curious to read on:
"I drink it without waiting for it to cool, letting it burn a path down my throat. The magic unfurls within me immediately, called forth as easily as a petal opening to the sun. The faint scent of the camellia drifts by, and I know I am ready to face the princess."

I cannot wait for August so I can continue adventuring with Ning and this colorful cast of characters in A Venom Dark and Sweet!
