This book blew me away. Such an interesting and unique magic system, characters you can’t help but root for, the most well done and normalized lqbtq representation i’ve seen in a while and a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book.
I was so drawn into the competition aspect of the story and loved the high stakes. I fell in love with Ning and her determination. She was such a good main character. From her devotion to her family, to the way she develops such lovely relationships in the hardest times and never loses hope. I also thought the political intrigue and deception was so well done and so interesting. The ending was so intense and i couldn’t put it down for so long since i just wanted to see what happened next. I NEED book two and am so happy it’s coming out in two weeks so i don’t have to wait to see what happens! Definitely one of my favorites now.
