A Magic Steeped in Poison is the first book in a duology that features Chinese mythology but the main genre is fantasy. I always say that fantasy is always harder to understand due to the world building and mythological creatures that they create or borrow from culture, but this book did it in the best way. You didn't really have to really have sit and wonder what the author was talking about or be confused because she explained everything perfectly.
Ning's journey is very unique and wonderful. I haven't seen many fantasy books feature a story like this one before. Incorporating tea making as a fantasy novel is a nice idea and it was executed perfectly. I loved the main character and will definitely be waiting for the next book in the duology. I might have to read it again and edit this review once I annotate everything, but from the first go around I would definitely recommend this book!
