What an opening paragraph!! You're instantly pulled into the narrative and the writing is sumptuous. This First Look introduces the shénnóng- shī, people who practice tea magic, and the description of these people is so artfully put together. We learn from our narrator, Ning, that she has neglected her own magic, and brewed the fated tea that killed her mother and resulted in the illness of her sister. After a scroll arrives, summoning shénnóng- shī to the palace, Ning decides she must answer these summons herself in hopes to save her sister.
The cover is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen and off this alone I would buy it.
