Lizzie is an attorney dealing with issues in her own marriage when an old friend from law school contacts her from Rikers. Zach has been arrested without bail for assaulting an officer the night he finds his wife dead in their Brooklyn brownstone apartment. While investigating her friend’s case, Lizzie comes across some gruesome secrets about The wife, Amanda’s, past. In her attempt to get Zach out of jail, the neighbors of Park Slope begin to unravel.

Honestly, if I had read the summary of the book beforehand I may not have read this. I’ve watched so much Criminal Minds, Law & Order, etc., that I just feel like murder cases like this plot are overdone. It also doesn’t help that my husband is a lawyer who has experience in federal courts and criminal law in NYS. So I constantly found myself fact checking with him how a case like this would actually go.

Overall, I thought this was great. It was extremely hard to feel bad for Zach because he seemed like a narcissistic jerk who didn’t deserve the wife and life he had. I also enjoyed the different angles of marriage the author showcases. It just goes to show that there is no such thing as a perfect marriage and each couple is extremely different. Some even live with murderers.
