Wow this was a multilayered novel, some family drama, mystery, multiple elements to the story. It isn’t one story, it’s a few going on all at once.

Lizzie Is working late at the law firm and gets a late night call from Zach, an old college friend. He’s in jail and desperate for a someone he trusts to help him get out. He’s in jail technically for assaulting an officer, but there’s the minor problem of his wife, dead at the foot of their stairs.

Lizzie wants to say no, she has her own personal issues and never wanted to take this type of case. But her boss actually thinks it’s a fabulous opportunity to her surprise.

So this whodunnit definitely kept me guessing, just when I thought I had figured out what happened, I was wrong. And I loved that. I also love that it brought how hard marriage is and that a good one looks different for everyone.

But the one thing that was impressive, also did some damage for me. I felt like there were too many things inducted into the plot, and not enough loose ends tied up, but enough resolution. So many characters introduced but not fleshed out.

Case is one of those loose ends, I’m a momma, I definitely wanted to know a little bit more about him and where his story ended. Maybe an epilogue would have been good.

Not once did I get bored though, I kept reading because it’s a very engrossing book. I’ll definitely read this authors back work.
