A GOOD MARRIAGE jumps right in with a call to criminal defense lawyer Lizzie Kitsakis from an old law school chum. He's suspected of brutally killing his wife, and he wants Lizzie to represent him. Reluctantly she gets drawn into his case even though she's tough and relentlessly driven. I love characters like that, especially ones who use words like shitshow to describe her old chum's situation.

Add in a slew of other inside scenarios about the Park Slope community and I might have to pour myself a whiskey. Who wouldn’t be interested in the “party” that the dead woman attended before she was killed, where the second floor was used for partner swapping. Then there’s the hacking of the contact list for Brooklyn Country Day school where most of the Park Slope kids attend. We learn that Amanda received a hard-breathing hang-up call before she died. Some outsiders would call Park Slope swanky and tony, but that facade hides a whole lot of dirty secrets. All is not well in Park Slope, and I’m sure it’s going to get worse. Of course it is. This is a thriller. I can’t wait to read it.

The dark simplicity of the cover seals the deal for me.
