It has been such a long time since I read Treasure Island so I really was not really sure what I was getting myself into when I started reading this novel. It turned out that it did not matter that I could not remember Treasure Island all that well because while this story was based on it, this story was pretty different. I am a sucker for a good pirate story which is what drew me to this novel in the first place. I had very high expectations and they were all met. I loved the relationship between Xiang and Anh because it just felt so real. I really appreciated how the story followed the source material, but not so much that it felt like it was the same story. The author really made the story her own. I really enjoyed reading this novel and while this is the only novel I have read by C.B. Lee I have a feeling that will be changing very soon. I can't wait to read more!
