Sixteen-year-old Xiang is the only child of a successful businesswoman, being raised in a small village by a friend of her mother's. She wants to experience life and impress her mother, so she jumps at the opportunity to go on an adventure with her new friend, Anh. The young girl learns fairly quickly that life outside her home is dangerous and not everyone is who they seem to be.
I don't typically enjoy reading the classics, so I don't usually go for retellings of them, but I am glad I read this book. Because I don't know too much about the original Treasure Island, I can't speak for how closely this book follows it. However, on its own, it was a great story and I read the majority of it in one sitting. It was full of adventure, drama, and a little romance. All the aspects worked together to make a memorable story. I would recommend reading this book.
