Pirates Galore
I'm very particular with my pirate books, but I can safely say this is one of the better ones. It's even better with the inspiration from Treasure Island, so I had lots of fun with reading this retelling. The representation with queer and Asian women was another element that I adored because I feel like there's still a lack of queer rep in fantasy stories when compared to contemporary/ regular fiction. Like what's better than pirate sapphics? NOTHING. Plus, add in some found family tropes to the mix, and we have the perfect setup to a book.
Overall, I'm very excited for this retelling collection in Macmillan for Children's Books because it's allowing a wider net of diversity to be reflected back in both a modern and classic sense. I did have some issues with the writing style of this author, but it wasn't enough of an issue to keep me from reading more in the future.
