This was an exciting and excellently told reimagining of Treasure Island. C. B. Lee has crafted an exciting and immersive world! When they were describing the sights and sounds of ancient Canton I felt like I was there! I wouldn't recommend reading this book while you are hungry because I don't think I have ever read about more amazing sounding food!
I love the characters and especially our two main characters. I love the gentle romance that made me smile, and the complicated family dynamic was so perfectly described, and that made it so heartbreaking. My one "complaint" was that the mystery was really easy to figure out, and not just for someone familiar with Treasure Island. But they mystery isn't what stands out for me, it was the setting. I don't think I have ever read a book that has been so exciting to step into. I felt like I entered a new world, and it makes me want to do some research on my own!
