Talk about a book I never knew I needed!!!
Okay to preface this, I have never read the original Treasure Island. I do plan to eventually, then I'll reread this book just to compare. However, for now, I went in with a fresh mind.
First, the romance. I hate slow burns normally, but omg Xiang and Anh have changed that for me. I
'm a sucker for the one bed trope, and then there was the 'we're wet and cold, let's take off our clothes to warm up'. Like yes please!!!
Secondly, who doesn't absolutely love badass female leads?? The women in this book are utter perfection.
Third, found family anyone??
And then the plot itself. Maybe because I haven't read Treasure Island, but I thought the concept of this plot was utterly unique. It was unlike anything I've ever read. It was a page turner too, like you're going to struggle to read 'just one more chapter'.
To be quite honest, if it wasn't for my class schedule interfering with my reading, this book would have been finished in 24 hrs.
Btw the language and descriptions in this book are gorgeous!!!
