My review title says it all. Another re-mix? Another re-telling?

This one is aimed at younger readers, by the cover I'd say 5-9; but it is YA, so that could be 9+. The cover does seem out of place with the age group, but then again, I remember Sweet Valley High "YA" which featured more realistic characters. Same as Sweet Valley Twins. I've got some YA books that the characters look old by comparison today.

"A Clash of Steel" is taking the classic story of "Treasure Island" and re-mixing it. And, sadly? I'm a bit on the fence with this (as I was another re-telling offering).

I really don't see the need for a re-telling. Perhaps it is to steer younger readers to the classics. But, that is a guess.

The idea does sound interesting - two girls, a necklace, a treasure, pirates. So much so that I believe it could stand on its own with the Treasure Island reference or comparison.

I know it wouldn't interest me as a child, and would I get it for my child? Probably not as I would want them to know the classics first.
