My favorite thing about this book is that it has a fun writing style. There is style and wit. This is one of the reasons I mainly read YA, beyond the fact that I am a teen librarian, because YA books offer the author more opportunities to have fun. They can express themselves more feely and this makes for a more entertaining read. This story also felt real to me. Many of my students have divorced families with half siblings and other non-1950's family units. This story will appeal to those who do not have the "normal" family unit and are searching for ways to connect and deal with whatever their home life is. Also road trip stories are very popular with YA readers as they give teens an opportunity to pretend they are on the road trip and away from family and school.
