While this is not a bad book, it is best suited for a very limited age bracket. It is sadly not the kind of YA book that will transcend the genre and appeal to older readers. The overall tone is just trying too hard to tap into that angsty teen energy. The story elements the author adds in an attempt to build the world and character read more like cliches, right down to the main character's dyed hair and therapeutic songwriting. Combined with her over-explanatory inner monologues and borderline bratty attitude, it would be hard for anyone over the age of 17 to relate to and become invested in the story. For anyone of the right age, however, the narrative journey could make it a worthwhile read.
