Active listening

When I was a senior in college, in my last semester I had only one required class for graduation. I could have just taken that class and had a relaxing couple of months. But I was on a scholarship that paid me by the number of classes I took. One class would have barely provided me with enough to pay my rent. ?I filled up my schedule with things like car care and public speaking. Things that would be useful in life, but not necessary for my degree. One of the classes was a thing called active listening. It was more than nodding, saying "umm" and parroting back what the other person said, although those things were there. I have often felt the world would be a better place if everybody had to take that class.
