Seems like the start to a wonderful fantasy!
This book is about a girl, Ximena, who acts as a decoy for her kingdoms ruler, after their land is taken by the Llacsan people, and their ruler, Atoc. When Atoc demands the last Illustrian ruler as his bride, Ximena must go in her place, to try to spare her countries people.
I wasn't too sure about this book at first. I wasn't really sure if it was going to be something I would enjoy. But after reading the first two chapters, I'm really excited to see what happens next! I felt like it was easy to get a sense of who the characters are from the very beginning. I also liked how the author chose to add such a lush, vivid description of the characters culture, because it gives their cause (wanting to take back their kingdom and old lives) more meaning.
