Really Enjoyed It

I really enjoyed this book. I felt like it did a good job explored Latin culture, and I really enjoyed the vivid descriptions of color and fashion. The plot was somewhat slow, but I enjoyed how it took a meandering pace through the story. I felt like it really allowed us to get to know the characters and understand them.

The romance was okay, it wasn't the best I've read, but I enjoyed it. I was sad that we didn't get to see more of the relationship between Tamaya and Rumi, because after all, Ximena insisted they were in love the entire time. From the first introduction of Rumi, I had guessed that he was going to be the love interest, because it followed the stereotypical YA introduction. I enjoyed them as characters separately, but I felt like their relationship progressed a bit quickly once they learned each other's true identities.

Like I said before, I really loved the culture in this book. It was so fun to read the descriptions of color and food. I was able to build such vivid pictures of the dresses Ximena wore, which really made her shine in my eyes.

I liked the way magic was portrayed in this. I liked seeing how the two cultures attributed their magic to different things, one to the sun, one to the moon. I also loved the really unique forms of magic in this. Rumi's healing is normal, but I don't think I had ever read a book in which weaving was a form of magic before. Ximena's power was super fun to read. I wish we had seen some more of the powers people had been gifted with, but it was still great.

I would definitely recommend this book, it did a super good job of exploring a culture we don't see much of, and was a fun read in general.
