I couldn't get into this one. In fairness, I'm not usually a fantasy reader, nor am I a young adult, so I'm not exactly the intended audience for this book. I chose it because of how gorgeous the cover was. Seriously, that cover! Stunning.

In terms of the book, I just felt like the same elements were repeated over and over again. Also, I appreciated that she was trying to work in cultural aspects, but at times it felt a but forced. Any time there was food in the scene, she would go on and on with description about the food, but it didn't feel natural in the flow of her writing. I don't even mind lengthy food descriptions in general. I loved A Gentleman in Moscow, but in that case the descriptions enriched the text, not took you away from the rest of the story.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but this book wasn't for me.
