I ADORED this book. It was atmospheric, had characters I needed, and a magic system that seemed endless. The culture she brings to life in this book was beautiful. I was kept guessing right until the end and when it finally came to life I was THRILLED. I can't wait to see what else she creates in this world because I can't wait to go back.
The main character had a constant battle between what she grew up knowing and what she was witnessing with current events. The grey area is one of my favorites and in the end. Inner turmoil is a huge motivator for me and I love seeing characters battle those grey areas.
The villain was vile. I hated hating him. It stressed me out but I guess eliciting those kinds of emotions mean the writing is THAT good.
