Woven In Moonlight is a YA Debut I'd been anticipating for a while! It was a delightful and vibrant political fantasy I wish I could go back and reread all over again.

Inspired by Ibañez's Bolivian heritage, the setting of Inkasisa came to life through the food, atmospheric descriptions, and much more!
The story follows Ximena whose a decoy Condesa for the Illustrians and their true ruler, Catalina. But when Atoc, the current ruler, asks for the Condesa, Ximena has to go in her place!

As the novel progresses, through Ximena's introspective 1st person POV, you see the development to the unique magic system considering she can weave thread through moonlight. This helps her along the way when she needs to find a way to send messages back to the Illustrians!

Identity is an important theme that was beautifully explored throughout the novel as Ximena better understands who she is while navigating politics and intrigue of the Llacsan palace.

The character dynamics was one of my many favorite parts about this book, I really loved Ximena, El Lobo, Princess Tamaya, Rumi, & Catalina!

There's mystery, intrigue, and the plot just kept on surprising me! Also through Ibañez’s beautiful writing, it perfectly balances the world, its layered politics, and the personal arcs of our main characters (including all the depth we get to our main character Ximena).

I'm really looking forward to seeing what else there is to explore in Ibañez's world of Inkasisa!
