You’ve read it before, yet you’ve yet to read it like this: a forced marriage and actual (fantasy) tribal politics within.

The beginning starts off strong because we don’t have just an action scene where two people are fighting or an assassin or whatever almost war trope one can usually see in fantasy. We see starvation and the effects of being second best, second preferred. Instead of insecurity that a lot of “outcast” main characters feel, we get more of a warrior with this main character. She is angry, but she keeps it in. The development with her isn’t as deep as I would have liked, but it was something as it seems that she is jealous of her friend who the people support more, but her friend looks for their happiness, not their longevity.

The marriage is demanded of by the king of another tribe who is feared, but it ends interestingly as there is an abrupt end with a promise of some sort of fight, but I cannot say I saw a lot brain, but I did see some. Perhaps the future chapters will prove even more unique.
