As someone who does not usually read fantasy stories, I was blown away by this first look. This story does not have a slow, boring start. As the readers, we are immediately introduced to the world of the Illustrians, who were run out of their city, La Cuidad Blanca ten years prior by Atoc and his people. What I appreciate about this story is that the current situation in the Illustrians' stronghold is explained all while giving a good background to what has happened in the past.
Being introduced to the magical component of this story is an entertaining aspect and I would love to see what role this magic plays within the story line.
