I am unable get interested this book. The characters don't seem real, appealing or redeemable. The plot seems to draw from several tropes of the genre, which is all good and well, but they are mashed together chaotically and are then dumped on you in the first several pages, which for me is unappealing. First person is hard to pull off anyways, but to then drop a whole slew of backstory in it before the character you're supposed to connect with can come across puts the readers back against the wall. It seems like the author tried to get too much out too quickly and was telling us a story rather than letting it unfold. The cover of the book matches this sentiment as there is a lot going on there too. Not a book for me, even though I do very much enjoy this genre.
