I didn’t expect the title to be so literal. It does make sense with the cover, where the flattened illustrations resemble stitching on a quilt. The effect is quite nice and I’m interested to see what else the Illustrians can do with their powers.

I’m afraid that I’m rather uninformed in Bolivian politics on the whole, but the short-lived food riot in the first chapter rings true with what I know about South American nations. Honestly, much of that could be American propaganda I’ve been exposed to over the years, but I’m curious if there’s going to be parallels or at least historical context for the ousting/coup that recently happened to Evo Morales. I can already see the differences in leadership styles between Catalina and Ximena, both with their advantages as well as serious drawbacks. Either way, I love a society that’s run by women.

I’ll probably continue reading with Google Translate open so I don’t miss anything in the Spanish words and phrases sprinkled throughout the text (condesa means countess btw). Despite the Stockholm-y relationship Ximena has as a result of the baby swap, I’m excited to see more from her & the land of Inkasisa.
