This book was described as similar to Lord of the Flies, a book I recently read and enjoyed, and that’s why I chose to read it (though the awesome cover honestly played a part as well). At first it didn’t strike me as similar to Lord of the Flies, but it definitely did toward the end. I’ve heard it was also compared to the movie Annihilation which I’ll have to check out. The book was really wonderful. It was slow at first, but picked up rather quickly. The characters were written very well, and I especially loved to see that there was not only one, but two LGBTQ+ relationships (and they were WLW)! I really loved Rory Power’s writing style. As the point of view and scenario shifted, so did the writing. It was really interesting reading Byatt’s distorted thoughts as if I were in her head, I though that it was a very effective writing choice. Overall a really good book for young women to read. It shows a lot about human nature, and was overall a wonderful story.
