This cover is amazing. It looks a little spooky with the color scheme and the design of girl with the flower growing up inside her neck to her head. That's where my positives for this one end.

I think I was supposed to connect with these characters, but I never felt it with any of them. The writing was choppy and awkward and seemed to try to make up for that with being very flowery and purple prose, but that's not enough to make a connection. It also never felt scary or filled with tension, and part of that could be my lack of connection to the girls.

The romance also felt shoehorned in for me. I'm always on the hunt for a good sapphic romance, but I'm often let down by them.

I won't spoil the ending, but I will say it was extremely disappointing for me. There was no explanation on ANYTHING about the "tox" or the island or anything remotely interesting. It wasn't even vague enough to make you think something happened. It just kind of ended as though the author didn't know where to go. Save yourself the time and watch Annihilation.
