Ironic to read about a pandemic in the MIDDLE of a pandemic! There’s a mysterious illness that is killing everyone in its path, and it’s contained on a small island filled with female students who are at a boarding school. The girls are quarantined and unable to leave the island, limited to food, water, and other basic necessities that are imperative to survival. However, Hetty’s (the narrator) best friend goes missing, and it’s up to Hetty to escape the island and find out what truly happened to her. This book is definitely unique, and while I didn’t understand Hetty’s dynamic with her peers, I felt the true panic that she must have been experiencing. The ending leaves the story open-ended, so I’m hoping that the author has plans to write a sequel, because the story in itself seems like it is far from over. I still had a fun time reading this one.
