I AM LITERAL TRASH FOR THIS BOOK. I DIDN’T THINK THAT I WAS GOING TO LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DID AND IT IS DEFINITELY MY TOP READ OF THIS YEAR AND MOST ANTICIPATED.

There are three main characters in the book Byatt, Hetty and Resse. It is told through two perspectives which is Byatt and Hetty throughout the entire book. The book definitely is based on friendship, family and relationships however it turned it all around in the best way possible with it being a horror book. Not making it all mushy but making the reader nervous if something was going to happen to one of the characters.

We build on top of one conflict to another until we get to the ultimate problem that the characters are facing in the book making the anticipation of what was to happen that much scarier. Really though the scariest part was how everything was described in such acute and precise detail making the reader squirm in both disgust and horror as you turn the page.

While we are on the talk of romantic relationships we have SOO MUCH F/F REPRESENTATION IN THIS BOOK IT WARMS MY QUEER HEART SO MUCH JUST REMEMBERING IT!

The pacing of the book was a little weird for me in the beginning because it was half a new world and half a different wold due to the book being set on a post-apocalyptic type of island. Yet, when I finished the like first chapter and a half it really started to make much more sense just due to gathering knowledge about everything and for the book actually picking up in pace to match the plot.

OH YEAH THE PLOT! FIRST OF ALL IF THE SUMMARY ABOVE DIDN’T SELL IT THEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE? JUST PRE-ORDER IT ALREADY!

Really though just get it! It is a brutal book so be prepared for gore and details you would only expect to come out of SAW movies. Especially for all of these characters being teenagers for the majority they fight their butts off to save themselves but also their friends. Also the way the author depicts the effects that mental health has on people in general is truly amazing as it shows it in the form as the villain in the book which harms the main characters and everyone else on the island near the Raxter School for Girls both physically, mentally and in a way emotionally.

The writing in this book is very unique, not my usual taste but I LOVED it for this book. This book is also told in first person point of view so please keep that mind if you decide to read it
