I received an ARC for this book and I couldn’t wait to read it. The author described it as gender bend Lord of the Flies. After reading however, I would say it’s more of a queer Annihilation. But it’s still so good! I loved how quickly everything moved and how high the stakes were. The story jumps from different perspectives which was done very well and each chapter felt like a cliff hanger. The characters were fun to read and I only wish there was more about the other girls.
The girls are stuck on an island in a school that they were attending when the tox broke out. The tox conforms their bodies in ways that is both terrifying and painful. There are a couple of adults still there from teaching at the school to help keep order, keep the girls trained and safe, but there’s no telling what dangers threaten the girls as the tox has seeped into the entire islands plants and animals.
