I really loved the haunting atmosphere and characters in the story. I really like that this book makes you think about human evolution and how viruses and other things can change human history. It also brings up climate change and what it does to living organisms. The mutations the characters developed was really interesting. Rory did an amazing job with science part of this story.

Hetty's character really struggles throughout the entire story with what's right and wrong. She always feels like things are her fault when something bad happens even when it's not her fault at all. With the quarantine, The Tox, and losing her sight in one eye it really puts a strain on her and the relationships.

I really loved Byatts POV chapters because it gives you a look at what happens to her and what shes like. I liked the writing style for her chapters. The words are repeated and fragmented. It really showed her confusion and hysteria of being in that situation. It also tells you how she got to Raxter.

Hetty and Reese's relationship isn't explained but you can tell they like each other but its not perfect. Its complicated and flawed. Hetty makes some decisions that end up putting some strain on their relationship. By the end of the book you still dont know where they're at in their relationship.

By the end of the book a lot has been left open but I can ser how that the point. Its leaves you with all kinds if questions that I think the reader should decide whether not what's gonna happen to everyone. I've seen movies like this before and I always assume that everyone gets what they need or want.

I really loved this debut novel from Rory Powers. It was a fast read for me. I had it done in a day. I also want to mention the cover art for the book was absolutely gorgeous. I still cant get over how pretty it is. I cant wait to see what else Rory has in store for the book world. I hope her next book is good as this one was.
